This Week in Music: Miley Cyrus, Spotify 2020 Top 10 List, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny & More.
It’s hard to believe that it’s December and that one of the most tumultuous years in recent memory is winding down. We made it, but I digress. This month will be full of looking back on the year that was and we will certainly do some of that.
However, there will still be plenty of new music and news to talk about. So, we are back with another “This Week in Music” to take a spin around the industry and get caught up.
Miley Cyrus Releases “Plastic Hearts”
Pop sensation Miley Cyrus has set her sights on saving and reviving Rock ‘N Roll with her new album “Plastic Hearts”. The 12-song album was released back on November 27th and had already made Rolling Stone’s top albums of 2020 list.
Fueled by singles “Midnight Sky” and “Prisoner”, the album is taking the industry by storm. The release is the 28-year old artist’s seventh studio album and it’s a glorious pop-rock album with strong 1980’s vibes.
Spotify’s 2020 Top 10 Artist List
It’s pictured here, but let’s list them out.
- Bad Bunny
- J Balvin
- Juice WRLD
- The Weeknd
- Billie Eilish
- Taylor Swift
- Post Malone
- Travis Scott
There is some good variety on this list and obviously, these artists are all heavy hitters in music. At this point in the year, it’s natural to look back and the past year and define the important moments and happenings. As we approach the year anniversary of the passing of Juice WRLD, it is incredible to see his name make this list.
As for Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper and singer released both his second and third solo studio albums this year and it helped him rise to prominence and end the year as the most-streamed artist on Spotify. Seeing him be able to rise to the top of the music world is one of the biggest stories in 2020.
The Weeknd & ROSALIA Release “Blinding Lights Remix”
One of the biggest tracks of 2019 is back with vengeance as it’s creator has released a remix featuring Spanish Vocalist, ROSALIA. The talented vocalists addition to a hit song makes for an incredibly pleasing and fun mashup.
It feels like now more than ever, the international music world is finding success in the United States, and this remix is further evidence of that. The song release is a win-win for both artists as a fresh revision of this already widely successful track will have them both on top of the charts for weeks to come.
Bad Bunny Accomplishes Another Milestone
You may be sensing a bit of a theme with Spanish speaking artists in this piece, but all we can do is report the news. With that in mind, Bad Bunny had an incredible week and he accomplished a new feat. His newest album, ‘El Ultimo Tour del Mundo’, is the first album to reach number 1 on the billboard charts while being recorded completely in Spanish.
If you think back on all of the Spanish speaking albums to ever be recorded, that is an incredible accomplishment. Bad Bunny has the number one album in the country and was the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2020. Not a bad month of December so far.
Lil Wayne Releases “Something Different” Video
A little over a week ago, Lil Wayne finally brought us the ‘No Ceilings 3’ Mixtape and he has now dropped the “Something Different” video on its heels. The video focuses on Wayne strolling through an impressive and grand mansion while vibing to his own track.
Currently, the video is 19th on YouTube’s trending list, and you can check it out below if you haven’t seen it yet.
